  1. Aspect: A module that encapsulates a cross-cutting concern. An aspect can contain advice and pointcuts.

  2. Advice: The action taken by an aspect at a particular join point. There are different types of advice:

    • Before: Executes before the join point.
    • After: Executes after the join point.
    • Around: Wraps the join point, allowing modification of its execution.
  3. Join Point: A point in the execution of the program where advice can be applied. For example, method calls or object instantiations.

  4. Pointcut: An expression that specifies a set of join points. It is used to define where the advice should be applied.

  5. Weaving: The process of integrating aspects into the codebase. Weaving can occur at different times:

    • Compile-time: During the compilation process.
    • Load-time: When the class is loaded into the JVM.
    • Runtime: As the application runs.

Benefits of AOP:

  • Improved Modularity: By separating concerns into aspects, code becomes more modular and easier to maintain.
  • Code Reusability: Common functionality can be defined once in an aspect and applied across multiple parts of the application.

Steps to Create an Aspect with @Aspect

  1. Define an Aspect Class: Create a class and annotate it with @Aspect to designate it as an aspect. This annotation tells Spring that this class contains aspect-related logic.

  2. Implement Advice Methods: Within the aspect class, define methods that will serve as advice. Use annotations like @Before, @After, @AfterReturning, @AfterThrowing, or @Around to specify the type of advice.

  3. Define Pointcuts: Use pointcut expressions to define where the advice should be applied. Pointcut expressions specify which join points (methods) the advice should target.
